BHARAT (2019) review – Mr S’s take

Review: Whenever Ali Abbas Zafar and Salman Khan came together, we got huge blockbusters like Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hain. This time also the duo doesn’t disappoint. A larger than life character of Salman khan named Bharat telling his own story with such an emotional flare that the audience is bound to fall in love with his character. Jumping from one car top to another while riding a bike, only one person can pull this off at the age of 53 and that person is none other than Salman khan. But it’s really fascinating when that humongous star with a macho charisma is turned into a soft emotional being who is very much caring about his family. It’s like watching both Chulbul Pandey and Prem on screen at the same time.
The other actors who deserve mention are Sunil Grover, Shashank Arora, Disha Patani, Kashmira Irani, Sonali Kulkarni and Jackie Shroff respectively in that order. But the one person who almost stole the show or at least matched her steps with the sultan is Katrina Kaif. Her acting has improved a lot over the years and after the less successful zero we can assume that she has been going through the 2nd phase of her acting life. From having a firm grasp over her Hindi to developing emotional context for her character Katrina Kaif has outdone herself in this movie.
The plot premise of ‘Bharat‘ is reportedly based on the successful Korean film ‘Ode To My Father‘. But every scene of Bharat seems more than original. The movie shows the journey of a man and a nation together. Every phase of Bharat’s life is properly shown in the movie with Salman being at the centre of the movie. From being a loveable stuntman to a jobseeker who steps outside his own country to get employment the director was keen on implying the fact why the devil lies in the details. The next phase where Salman works in the Indian Navy might remind some of the audiences of the 2013 movie Captain Phillips but the scenes didn’t do injustice to the movie. The last phase is the emotional one which is used to retain the audiences on their seats. The craving people had to reunite with their families on the other side of the border is quite overwhelming and is shown with great expertise.
Overall Bharat is nothing but Salman Khan being the action hero version of himself with an extra bit of emotional flair.
Rating: My rating for the movie is 3 out of 5.
Who should watch this:. If you are a Bhaijaan Fan, then you should definitely go for this one. Other than that you should check out, Ek tha tiger, Tiger Zinda hain, Sultan and my all-time favorite Salman Khan movie Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
